This year Oscars – Academy Awards is very special to me. There were 5 film nominations for my native country Poland. I was co closely crossing my fingers for Ida to win and was so ecstatic to see Director Pawel Pawlikowski on the stage receiving the honors of golden Oscar statue from the hands of Nicole Kidman. This is a historic moment for Poland honoring for the first time Polish cinematography.  Pawel Pawlikowski with his eloquent speech and sense of humor had the audience in his pocket within minutes. Hollywood stars were laughing and applauding him. Even signs of wrapping up his speech with disturbing music didn’t intimidate to rush him off the stage. I was so proud for my native country man to be so honored by the Academy.

Each year there is a big focus on what stars are wearing on the red carpet.  If you happened to tune in this past weekend for the 87th Academy Awards then you are well aware that the fashion was at an all time high. Here are a few of my favorite looks:

Julianne Moore won best actress for her film, “Still Alice.” And according to many, she may have won best dressed too. Who was the designer, you ask? It was the infamous Karl Lagerfeld. After approving his very first sketch, Moore entrusted Lagerfeld for her big night. 987 hours and 80,000 hand-painted sequins later, Lagerfeld proved with the one-of-a-kind gown that he always pulls through. And to top it all off, Moore’s win earned her an extra five years of life! Yes, you heard that right. According to her winning speech, if you win an Oscar you gain five years of life. Wouldn’t that be nice!

One of my personal favorite dresses of the night was the black and silver metallic Armani Privé gown worn by the amazing Naomi Watts. Watts starred in the film that won best picture, “Birdman,” and she was clearly ready for the win. I’m not always won for too much glitz but this long, chic look with the sequined band and dark lip color was nothing short of glamorous. That’s two wins for Watts! Check out her look here:

Another honorable mention, Lupita Nyong’o and her Calvin Klein pearls. Reportedly her dress had over 6,000 pearls. It was stunning to say the least but if you’ve ever worn pearls, a necklace perhaps, you must be wondering what we all are: how heavy was that dress? According to an interview on the red carpet, the gown was surprisingly comfortable, even to sit in.  Let’s hope so, because I can only assume that gown cost her quite the pretty penny. Comfort or not, Nyong’o was easily one of the most talked about looks of the night. You must see it here:

So what was your favorite look of the night?

CANNES

CANNES-1+

CANNES-2+CANNES-8+CANNES-7+The 67th edition of the Cannes Film Festival started with a big craze. I arrived so excited in the second week to evolve in its fame and glory. Its always a rare moment for rich and famous to get together and roll out their flamboyant possessions at the “Big Screen Kingdom” of French Riviera.  I was ready to experience it like never before. This is a perfect place for the cinema world to meet to recognize go-getters, discover new talents, masterpieces, show best fashion, jewels, and glamour, while working the tapis rouge. Its all about striking camera ready precision of this “red legendary moment”.  Film icons, actors and hard working show business entourage shine and sparkle catching the attention of millions of spectators while competing for the Palm D’ore trophy.

You better be on your best behavior and clean cut if you want to be swept away.  Talent agents, directors, publicists, journalists, sponsors and cameras are all watching. Competition is fierce with A-list attendance and fresh talent immersion. This 67th edition should be one to remember with big names like Gilles Jacob, and Thierry Fremaux have picked up the year’s best movies, including brand new works by the Olivier Dahan, Olivier Assayas, David Cronenberg, Xavier Dolan, Michel Hazanavicious, Mike Leigh, Ken Loach among others. Particularly this year Cannes pays a special tribute to the director of Pulp Fiction Quentin Tarantino. As always he shakes things up. He makes you want to go to the movies. This very rock’n’roll acknowledgement includes a screening of the film on the beach followed by a party with special guests list. Do you remember feeling electroshock listening to its hilarious dialogue at the screening of this mad movie? In the Lumiere amphitheatre, each person in the audience knows the magnitude of this rare privilege of being one of the first thousand people to see these artists work.

It was a great pleasure to see Saint Laurent film. Its bizarre life story, evolved genus and masterpieces that some stars wore proudly on the Palais stairs sheathed in red carpet. Some of these films educate, tell a story where others are meant to entertain. No matter their purpose we are all affected and united by the freedom of reflection, romance, fun, history but foremost its artistry.

There is so much dazzle, elegance and emotion on every corner.  Beautiful weather permits the parties, galas and events to be filled with top stars, beautiful fashion, elegance vibrant energy. This is also a great time for a spectator like me to relax by the beach, breath, enjoy delicious food, brake all the sweet rules and observe the whole big screen action from a distance.  And when it all got overwhelmed I was admiring more shining beautiful stars in the sky.
