In 1961, Dr. Bud Keith opened one of the very first gyms; it was called Healthhouse Gym and Juice Bar. Dr. Keith was a nutritionist and health fanatic way ahead of his time. “He knew that what we eat has a direct effect on what we feel,” and he wanted to share this knowledge with the world. So Bud decided to travel the states in a motorhome with his family to educate others on the importance of healthy living. And in an attempt to feed his eight children, he and his wife Barbara created their own protein bar that is now known today as the “Perfect Bar.”

Bud partnered with Jack LaLane in an effort to help change the way people viewed health and fitness, and to share his belief that “whole foods are the only acceptable source of nourishment for your body.” Don’t you agree? But while constantly traveling, it began to become difficult to feed his eight children whole, healthy foods. So one day Bud ground up a bunch of dried fruits and vegetables and mixed them with fresh peanut butter and honey. When he took one bite the only words he had were, “it’s perfect!”

The kids loved these “peanut butter” bars and would sell them on the street as other kids sold lemonade. It wasn’t until 2005 when their father was diagnosed with skin cancer that the idea to start a real business was ever discussed. There were now thirteen children and with a need to provide for her children, Barbara knew it was time to take a gamble and turn their family recipe into a family business.

“For the children to carry on that legacy is a show of dedication and passion and love for their father,” said Mike Burgener, Senior International Weightlifting Coach and friend of the family. And daughter Lee has explained that the business is truly “about learning and growing and building and sharing those nutrition principles that were instilled in us as kids… all of that together is what I think makes perfect bar perfect.” And I must say, I completely agree.

These days it may all be about “gluten free” or “organic” foods but in the 80s and 90s, Dr. Bud Keith and his ideas were considered a little out there. Luckily today the bars and the nutrition concepts behind them have become widely accepted and the loved by many. And with 20 organic super foods and high quality protein in every bar, who can complain?

You can find the Perfect Bar in the refrigerated section of your local grocery or convenience store like Wholefood. The Keith’s believe in Mother Nature’s natural preservative, cold. And remember as they say, “if a bar is not refrigerated, it is not perfect.” So go out today and look for Buddy the Bee, you know, that flying bodybuilder with wings and a stinger, and try one for yourself. I recommend the classic recipe, Almond Coconut. Or if you want the same nutty taste but with fewer calories, check out Almond Acai let me know what you think!

The Importance of Meditation in Your Fast-Paced Lifestyle

meditation-1 6N0B1983 copySWISS-12When you get off the subway in New York City you better have a clear destination in mind with a route mapped out or prepare to be trampled by natives who do. Everyone is in a perpetual rush and break is not a common word in our dictionary. After all, this is the city that never sleeps. We’re too busy making dreams come true to find a moment to relax. And I must admit I am no different. With the release of my first fashion line approaching, Boutique On 57 and my raw chocolate business, there is hardly time to catch a wink of sleep. I am constantly traveling to find the latest designer clothing to bring back to you at discounted prices. But as a health educator, I am also well aware of the importance of rest and relaxation, as well as the consequences of the lack thereof. Because I refuse to give up any of my dreams, as none of us should, I have had to find a way to relieve stress in my life that allows me to regain my sanity and focus. How, you ask? One word: meditation. Meditation is a very useful tool to add to your daily routine for multiple reasons and there are multiple techniques. With a little research, you can find the best option for you. Whether it be 45 minutes of yoga, gazing at nature or a short, deep breathing exercise, you will soon find yourself wreaking benefits. Meditation has been known to help with a lot of health-related problems including depression, heart disease, cancer, high blood pressure and general pain. It is the most inexpensive (really, it can cost nothing) treatment for all of these issues and one faced by almost everyone, stress. It is a very simple skill in managing stress and increases self-awareness, allowing us to focus on the present and reduce negative emotions. Perhaps you need to clear your mind before bed to catch a few extra Z’s. Maybe you’ve been searching for a new perspective on a work project. Or you might just be looking to restore your inner peace on your lunch hour. No problem – the benefits of meditation are unlimited so give it a try! KASIA P.S. As always I would like to hear from you what relaxes you? How do you come down your nerves? Share your tips comments, and suggestions with the rest of us.

I keep saying that I don’t know what would have I done if I never met Dr. Clement in my life. One thing is certain that when a student is ready teacher always appears. When I meet him it felt so natural to squeeze every drop of wisdom, kindness and generosity out of him as he has plenty to share with everyone. Prior coming to Hippocrates Institute I have heard amazing things about him. He had huge dreams and even bigger vision to build this place where everyone from all over the world can come and indulge in new rawlishes life, daily shots of wheatgrass, green juices, find peace, happiness, longevity and get tons of support. He has been my role model teaching me that “The choices we make determine our fate”.

Millions of people worldwide suffer from malnutrition, poor guidance, stress and conflict. Fortunately there are people dedicated to give us tools of wisdom, love and passion to reboot our belief systems and start living lives we were meant to. With the 40 years of promoting this legacy Dr. Brian and Anna Maria Clement vision provokes people to take responsibility to make more sensible style lives. Health is wealth where generating positive mind set, joy, strength and thrive doesn’t happen by chance. As Dr. Clement said he doesn’t heal no one rather we are our own healers. Its up to us to begin to see this way to health and wealth.

The ultimate goal for most of us is to make it to haven. I feel that I am so ahead of myself and I am already in celestial zone since my studies at Hippocrates Health Institute I would be surprised if “promised land” could match this magical place with its glory, tranquility miracles and all blessings showered upon everyone here. The concept of time doesn’t exist here.  Each guest can start learning from wherever they need to begin in order to grow, heal and transform their life. Regardless if you need to overcome your health challenges or improve a well-being staying in harmony with nature gives everyone courage and commitment to live responsible life. I believe that all the time we spend in Nature heals, soothes and changes us right down to the core of our being. Slowly we discover that Nature calms the anger and drama in our head and things start to calm down and relax. Most of us accumulate toxins we don’t even understand. We are literally, physically addicted to the stress hormones that are released into our body by the perpetual drama and frantic activity. Often this takes severe toll on our body, mind and spirit. Through the health education program at Hippocrates Health Institute, its the premiere natural guidance to wellness with passionate stuff, and major dedication for self-fulfilled life. You will need to abandon your unhealthy habits and give a chance to new organic life. We are one big family here.

The core principle to well being here is based on raw living food diet. For some this could be totally new experience and challenge to get used to. Give it a time and you will be pleasantly surprised of developing new delicious palete. Hippocrates diet consists of 80% raw and 20% cooked food. The executive chef Ken Blue coordinates delicious and colorful buffet that is rich in variety of organic fresh sprouts, salads, legumes, sweet peppers and side dishes properly food combined. There is no salt, nor vinegar used. So far my favorite dish has been kelp pasta with mild sweet flavor, and nut icecream served every saturday. You should see the lines when they get hand out. During my internship with chef Ken in the kitchen I had an opportunity to observe how efficiently everything gets prepared with detailed precision, caring, and locally sourced top quality products. There is no cutting corners on products nor produce substitution. It was a great experience to share this knowledge where I could test this theory with my own new possibilities to create inspiring fun vegan recipes.

The second main success component of the program is wheat grass juice. Its considered here to be literately “blood transfusion”. When I learned about its health wonders and rich nutritious content with full balanced spectrum of vitamins and minerals I made sure I got plenty of this miraculous liquid. Instantly my energy and endurance improved, but the most exciting was relief of heavy menstrual cramps. If you are looking for hard-core natural health and healing guidance I suggest you seriously take the time to drink 2 oz twice daily of these fresh shots. You can learn how to grow your own living foods including wheatgrass and sprouts, juice and garden at classes offered by Brian Hetrich.

Its almost unbelievable that the way to heaven is not that complicated!

P.S. As always I would like to hear from you what is your philosophy on diet, and healthy living? How do you cope with stress and how do you relax? Share your comments, suggestions and advise with the rest of us.

How clothes can kill you

I was always wondering why my clothes were shrinking with each wash, and were ready to fit my neighbor’s chihuahua. We often automatically assume when checking labels that when its marked cotton or natural we are instantly safe. I have news for you not all cottons are created equal. Non-organic cotton contains residues of herbicides and pesticides that are used in the growing process. Good natural quality fibers are great investment and its life span can last up to 100 washes without changing any shape or form. In comparison to the synthetic or non organic cotton where its washing expectancy can withstand only 10 washes.

As a stylist I select thousands of items from worlds finest designers showrooms. Sadly I have to report that most of them shy away from organic or natural textile content. Good quality, classic styles with a twist can make a great statement at everyone’s wardrobe. If we pay top deniros for them they should at least last us descent amount of time and be safe to wear. Just like slogans never goes out of style its quality and safety should do exactly the same. We can relay on few proven things which is limiting exposure to synthetics as much as we can. This means buying and wearing only natural organic clothing.

1422487_10153458968415273_889583934_nDressing like a chairman triggers people to treat you like one. I really love my job to help others look pristine, but how about if this look is misleading and under your chic expensive attire you are boiling out of discomfort or perspiring off the chemicals that were pre-set prior to your purchase. I used to think that all my freshly bought clothes when washed all the toxic residue simply would go away. Instead I found out that those bad guys can resist even up to a year of intense washes before braking up.

Many chemicals have been designed to be immortal and don’t break down easily. Once they penetrate our body they can present some serious health hazards. Skin rushes, irritations, respiratory, allergies, etc. Recently I have attended lecture with Jeffrey Smith top GMO expert and best selling author of “Seeds of Deception” and learned that Cotton is the most pesticide dependent crop grown anywhere in the world. Mostly cultivated in India. So for every single pair of jeans and every t-shirt using cotton about one pound of pesticides and chemical fertilizers are used.

Invest in quality natural fibers. Focus on quality rather quantity. The more natural fiber clothing you will wear, the safer your body and mind will be. Those looks to kill you are so much inspiring to get indeed can gradually do exactly that!

The most common natural fiber options:

cotton: Fragments from 5000BC have turned up in archeological digs in Pakistan and    Mexico. Today it remains “King” of textiles. Sadly less then 1% organically grown cotton accounts of worldwide cotton production.

flax: It’s considered one of the nature’s strongest fiber and can reach up to 4 feet tall. Its origin goes back to prehistoric times near the Near East later accruing in ancient Egypt, classical Greece, and imperial Rome. Best known as source of linen, used in its finest form to wrap the mummies of Egyptian pharaohs.

hemp: Versatile and handy. The good news is that it grows free off fungicides, herbicides, or pesticides, because its naturally insect resistant. It was original fabric for LEVI’S jeans, before they switched to cotton. Half of the hemp supply is grown in China. Their fibers are 4 times stronger then cotton.

silk: or “queen of fabrics” first developed in ancient China. For generations was worn only by royalty. Its produced by the larvae of a moth species that feeds on the leaves of the white mulberry tree. Today mostly cultivated in domesticated silk farms.

wool: comesfrom sheep. Mostly commercially grown, contaminated with chemicals, such as pesticides that are use to kill parasites on the sheep.  Organic wool slowly is gaining its grove back, with New Mexico providing about 80% of US certified organic wool.

with Victoras Kulvinskas co-founder of Hippocrates

I wish you could all be here with me at Hippocrates Health Institute picking the brains of those amazing dedicated lecturers that I deeply admire. They devoted their life to a powerful mission of helping thousands to create the life filled with meaning, wisdom and  wonder.  There has been so much to absorb and digest from each speaker, and digestive enzymes had nothing to do with it. I barely had any time to sleep trying to process and sort out everything I was learning. They all brought some unique intelligence, definition of personal success, knowledge, passion, encouragement, devotion and huge heart. We were all wired up, interactive with questions and quickly grasping to each revelation as each speaker was taking the stage. I am a practical gal who likes to implement such wisdom right on the spot. My head was spinning from astonishment and flow of accurate information quickly filling up my notebook. I must say I really enjoyed immensely lectures of Victoras Kulvinskas co founder, with Wigmore of Hippocrates Institute. He is a walking wellness library ready to be shared at any asked moment. You can just turn pages in his genius brain and find answer to every inquiry. I also was drowned to Dr. Brian and Anna Maria Clements with Q&A session. They got my juices flowing much before they were physically poured and served. I got lots of clarity, and wish I could stop the time.  It was a natural progression of what  I have became aware of. They really created my own personal revolution: how I nourish my body and listen to it, reshuffle priorities, values, and choices.

This has been transformational guide to my personal inspiration. I have learned that I m now conscious of how every choice I make can have an impact on everything and everyone around. We are all like supporting family.

Here are some valuable points I took notes of and wanted to share with you:

1. Dr.Brian Clement informed us about shocking reality of what really goes on behind the door of majority food chain industries. I wasn’t aware that food chain companies hire biochemists around the clock with huge salaries to create addicting poisonous chemical formulas in our foods.

2. I have learned great value and benefits of wheat grass, sprouts, and blue green algae. These super foods give enormous amounts of energy and vitality allowing our physique to function on optimal level. Your body and mind will thank you for it through your increased energy levels, the health of your skin, and stronger immune system.

3. Only fox can digest eggs

4. Tomato is a fruit

5. Watermelon is a new Viagra.

6. Cashews are poisonous. They are not sold raw as claimed and contained urushiol that can create significant skin rashes, and can be toxic when ingested.

7. Avocado is a source of healthy bacteria

8. The day you rest you develop muscles

9. Fish goes rancid when is out of water for more then 20 minutes

10. Melons are meant to eat alone. They digest within 15-30 minutes

11. Coconut oil is great for teeth pulling. It will make your gums stronger and will kill bacteria

12. Mongbeans fight flu and restore gray hair

13. Right food combining: carbohydrates don’t mix with protein. Starches don’t mix with protein, fruits, avocado. Fruits don’t mix with vegetables, and protein.

14. Antibiotics don’t kill viruses but bacteria

15. To eat fruits you must be healthy. They should be 15% of your overall diet. Sugar feeds Candida and cancer.

16. Chocolate is made of agave and nibs.

17. Don’t put apple cider vinegar to food as it kills enzymes.

18. Proteins don’t put weight on, carbohydrates do

19. Dr. Clement said “Define your purpose and find your passion. Purposeful life is a life worth living”.

20. Victoras Kulvinskas said “Be you not BS”!

This content was fascinating and gaining this knowledge is priceless. Once you are in you are in for life. I m so eager to live my life as a happy and healthy adventure. If I get the gift to inspire someone the same way I was inspired by those teachers it will be the cherry on top.
