Valentine’s Day – Share your love story

Every love story is beautiful, but lets be honest – nothing compares to the story closest to our hearts. Maybe it’s the one your mother tells you about how she met your dad when she was 15, forced him to take her to a school dance and they’ve been inseparable ever since (true story). Or maybe it’s the one your grandma tells you of her and your grandfather: they were childhood best friends turned teenage lovers, married at 18, had ten kids quick and are still going strong today. It’s beautiful, it really is. But whether or not your great aunt was a nurse in the war and fell in love with a wounded soldier or your sister met the love of her life on match.com, there is one love story most people forget – their own.

Now let me be clear, I am not talking about how you and your fiancée met and it was love at first sight. I am sure he is the most amazing guy in the entire world. I believe you, I really do. But I am talking about your own love story. You know, the one between you and yourself? It is the most important love story you will ever have, it is the only one that will keep you going strong forever and it is the most forgotten and quite possibly least cherished love of all. So do yourself a favor and when you wake up this Valentine’s Day, take a good look in the mirror and tell yourself you are loved. As the saying goes, if you don’t love yourself, how do you expect anyone else to?

That is why this Valentine’s Day I am reaching out to all my ladies, single and taken, to show a little love … to yourself. Yes, you can still carry out your romantic dinner plans and finish up your do-it-yourself valentine for the hubby, but please promise me one thing: you will treat yourself too. Because I promise, it will be the best gift of all. Whether it’s a bouquet of flowers, a nice long bubble bath or some vegan chocolate you desire (wink wink), I give you permission to go for it. Free yourself of guilt, make no judgments, and just love you for you. Because the only way to truly spread love is to first love yourself.

P.S. And come February 15, I hope you will share your own love story with me.

Your ideal Valentine’s Day

VALENTINE'S-DAY-1AMFAR-2VALENTINES-DAY-2boutique on 57

As the city is covered all in snow the most romantic day is almost here. I was lucky enough to escape New York just on time to avoid another heavy snow blizzard. Some people tend to dislike “this holiday” because they say that Valentine’s Day is about spending a lot of money and blah blah blah, but if it’s supposed to be a special day then let’s make one right?

For example, I’m more than happy that I can spend some quality time with my hubby. It doesn’t matter what we do, or where we go. Some of choices could either be going out for a candlelit dinner to watch a movie, yeah, pretty cliché, (I wouldn’t reject any vegan hazelnut chocolates, which by the way, he knows those are my favorite)… but you know why? It’s because this day is all about enjoying each other’s company and most important with the man who stands by your side. Besides every day should feel like this.

This time I might try something different. It’s always a good idea to renovate the options instead of doing the same plan each year, because that will drag us to monotony, and that’s not the point here. This is the moment where couples should come up with some fresh, fun and creative plans. This Valentines Day, I am so happy to travel the whole weekend with my man; I think that always helps to take a breath of work, stress and the city. Changing scenery is mostly therapeutic and refreshing.

My best recommendation is keep it simple, little things work best. Stay away from the routine and do something fun instead. Maybe go to a spa together, or attend to a yoga class together, just something out the norm that will make it interesting. Make yourself looking extra pretty. Put some extra layer of red to initiate romantic escapes. Other than that, there are so many things to do in New York, so keep that in mind and take my advice.

Good Luck! and Happy Valentine’s Day

P.S. As always I would like to hear from you how you will be spending your Valentine’s day. Do you have any special plans? What would make it ideal for you? Share your comments and suggestions with the rat of us.
